The City of Colorado Springs announced on Mar. 24 that Ramona Avenue at South Nevada Avenue will be closed for three days starting Monday as part of the South Nevada Avenue Traffic Signal Improvements Project.

The closure is necessary to allow crews to complete paving work and striping in the area. According to the city, paving is scheduled for Monday, March 23, with a possible extension into Tuesday, March 24. Additional striping work will take place on the morning of Wednesday, March 25 and last for a few hours. The road will reopen once all work is finished.

Traffic traveling north and south on South Nevada Avenue will not be affected by the closure. Access to businesses and properties near the intersection will remain open during construction. Drivers are advised to follow posted detour routes around the closed intersection.

For westbound traffic on Ramona Avenue, drivers should detour south on South Nevada Avenue, west on St. Elmo Avenue, then north on Tejon Street before returning to Ramona from the west side. Eastbound traffic should detour south on Tejon Street, east on St. Elmo Avenue, then north on South Nevada Avenue before returning to Ramona from the east side.

Pedestrian access will continue with marked detours; however, some sidewalk segments near the work zone may temporarily close with signage directing pedestrians where it is safe to cross. On-street parking within the construction area will also be restricted during this period. Visitors are encouraged to use nearby parking areas outside of the closure zone when accessing local businesses.

The city said that this project is being completed in partnership with the Colorado Department of Transportation and involves upgrades at two intersections along South Nevada Avenue—at Ramona and St. Elmo avenues—to replace aging traffic signal infrastructure and provide safety improvements for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
