The City of Colorado Springs will begin the Rampart Park Drainage project on Wednesday, January 21. The construction is expected to last about three weeks, depending on weather conditions. Access to several park amenities, including the dog park, disc golf course, basketball courts, BMX track, baseball field, and playground may be temporarily affected by the work.
Crews anticipate that closure of the access road off Lexington Drive will not exceed three days if weather permits. Updates regarding road closures and park access will be shared through Colorado Springs Parks social media accounts (@CoSpringsParks).
The drainage project includes repairs along an open channel situated between the north side of the park easement and the south side of a new development area. As part of these repairs, workers will install a pipe to direct water flow and bury it in order to protect a retaining wall near the new development. This retaining wall collapsed following heavy rainfall during summer 2025.
During construction, large trucks and equipment will be present in the area. The road leading into Rampart Park will be limited to a single 10-foot lane for both entering and exiting vehicles. Outgoing traffic is asked to yield to incoming vehicles when leaving the park.
