The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department (PRCS) will hold a second public meeting for the Stratton Neighborhood Park master plan. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the park located at 1819 West Cheyenne Road.
During the meeting, park staff will provide updates on community feedback collected so far and discuss upcoming fuel mitigation efforts in collaboration with the Colorado Springs Fire Department. Staff will also outline the next steps in the planning process.
“Purchased by the City of Colorado Springs in 2021, PRCS is dedicated to creating a park that preserves its historical significance and serves the neighborhood’s needs. The community’s input will play a role in shaping the park’s future, ensuring that it reflects the values and desires of the neighborhood.”
Stratton Neighborhood Park has roots going back to the early 1900s when Winfield Scott Stratton first acquired it. Originally called “Cheyenne Park” and later known as “Stratton’s Park,” it was officially dedicated on June 12, 1902. Early features included a pavilion, bandstand, and several bridges over Cheyenne Creek. Over time, parts of the original property were sold to developers and new structures were added.
In the late 1960s, PEO International bought the property and constructed the PEO Chapter House in 1966 with an aim to maintain its natural setting while providing housing for PEO members. The site remained under PEO ownership until PRCS purchased it in 2021.
