Seven hospitals in the Mountain Region of CommonSpirit Health have received national recognition from the American Heart Association (AHA) for their work with patients affected by stroke and type 2 diabetes. These facilities were awarded the Get With The Guidelines – Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, which highlights adherence to evidence-based care standards.

The AHA’s Get With The Guidelines program helps hospitals follow research-based protocols aimed at improving patient outcomes. Hospitals recognized include Longmont United Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, Penrose Hospital, St. Anthony Hospital, St. Anthony North Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital – Davis, and St. Catherine Hospital – Garden City.

The Gold Plus award indicates that a hospital has maintained at least 85% compliance with all achievement indicators for two or more consecutive years and at least 75% compliance with four or more of nine quality measures for stroke care. For diabetes care, an 85% adherence rate to specific guidelines is required.

“We are incredibly proud to receive these Get With The Guidelines awards from the American Heart Association,” said Timothy Bode, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Mountain Region. “This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our physicians, nurses, and staff who work tirelessly every day to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care. By implementing the AHA’s evidence-based guidelines, we are ensuring that our community receives the highest quality of stroke and diabetes care, which can significantly improve patient outcomes and quality of life.”

Hospitals participating in this program use a standardized approach for treating stroke and type 2 diabetes patients that includes early intervention strategies, medication management plans, educational resources for patients and families, as well as support during transitions of care after discharge. These efforts are intended to reduce disability rates and promote better recovery among patients.
