The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on April 15 that southbound Interstate 25 in Colorado Springs will experience lane and full closures between Fillmore Street and Garden of the Gods Road from April 16 through April 19. The closures are intended to ensure the safety of both motorists and construction crews during ongoing roadway and bridge repairs.
These measures are necessary as crews work on pavement cutting, bridge deck repairs, and the replacement of expansion devices. According to the department, overnight lane closures will begin Thursday evening with double lane restrictions reducing traffic to a single lane. Full closures are planned for Friday night into Saturday morning, as well as Sunday night into Monday morning, with detour routes provided for affected drivers.
Detours will direct southbound motorists off at Exit 146 onto Garden of the Gods Road, then onto Centennial Boulevard before reconnecting with I-25 past Fillmore Street. Two additional full overnight closures are anticipated in May—one affecting northbound lanes on May 1 and another impacting southbound lanes on May 8—with further updates promised ahead of these activities.
The Colorado Department of Transportation is responsible for overseeing transportation infrastructure across the state, including highways such as Interstate 25, according to the official website. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director for the department according to its official website. The department’s mission includes delivering integrated multi-modal transportation solutions that enhance quality of life while maintaining environmental standards in Colorado as stated by CDOT.
Looking forward, CDOT said it would continue communicating advance notice about upcoming roadwork or detours related to this project.
