Taylor Rehmet, a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and a veteran, has been sworn in as the first rank-and-file union member to serve in the Texas State Senate. Rehmet’s inauguration was marked as a significant event for the labor movement.

Rehmet has held various leadership roles within his union. He stated that moving into legislative work is a continuation of his advocacy for workers’ rights. According to Rehmet, “he explicitly pledges to address critical issues such as stagnant wages, retirement security and public education.”

The event was attended by supporters from the labor community who highlighted its importance for worker representation in government.
