The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced a temporary closure of the intersection at Weld County Road 38 and the I-25 East Frontage Road, located east of Mead. The closure will begin on Tuesday, September 16, at 5 a.m. and is expected to last until mid-October. This measure is part of ongoing work to rebuild and improve the intersection as CDOT reconstructs the WCR 38 bridge over I-25.

During the closure, westbound traffic on WCR 38 will be directed east toward Colorado Boulevard. Drivers can then turn south and either head west onto Weld County Road 34 for local destinations or use Colorado Highway 66 to access I-25. Northbound traffic on the I-25 East Frontage Road will be diverted south before turning onto WCR 34 for local access or to enter I-25. Southbound vehicles will not have access to the I-25 East Frontage Road between WCR 38 and Weld County Road 40; these drivers should use Colorado Highway 56, Colorado Boulevard, and WCR 34 for their routes.

According to CDOT, “This work is part of the I-25 North Express Lanes Project, Mead to Berthoud, which includes reconstructing and widening bridges along this section of I-25. Full closures increase safety for the traveling public and crews while decreasing the duration of traffic impacts.”

Construction timelines may change depending on weather conditions.

CDOT advises motorists that there will be a full closure at WCR 38 at I-25 East Frontage Road from September 16 through mid-October. Detour signs will be posted throughout the area.
