Tyler Jaeckel has been appointed as the new Director of the Division of Housing at the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), with his tenure beginning on October 7, 2025. Jaeckel brings over twenty years of experience in housing policy, development, and program management at various levels of government.
Before joining DOLA, Jaeckel served as Chief of the Office of Federal Funds and Strategic Initiatives for Governor Jared Polis. In that role, he managed housing programs and federal stimulus investments aimed at addressing homelessness, affordability issues, and workforce development.
“Tyler brings a unique mix of legal, policy, and hands-on housing experience that will make an immediate impact at DOLA. His leadership in creating innovative housing solutions demonstrates that he knows how to turn bold ideas into real results for communities,” said Maria De Cambra, DOLA’s Executive Director. “We’re excited to welcome him to lead the Division of Housing and advance our mission of creating housing for every Colorado budget.”
Jaeckel’s career includes work on housing and zoning in the New York City Mayor’s Office and involvement with the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development. He has led teams working on housing issues nationwide. In Colorado, he played a key role in launching Denver’s Supportive Housing Social Impact Bond Initiative, which became the city’s largest supportive housing program for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. He also contributed to establishing Denver’s first affordable housing fund.
His work extends to organizations such as the Harvard Kennedy School’s Government Performance Lab, the Office of State Planning and Budgeting, and the Bell Policy Center. These roles involved leading initiatives that focused on innovative funding strategies and cross-sector collaboration to address housing challenges.
This background is expected to help DOLA enhance its ability to deliver effective statewide housing programs and expand access to stable homes across Colorado.
A native Coloradan, Jaeckel holds degrees from New York University School of Law (J.D.), Harvard Kennedy School (M.P.P.), and Northwestern University (B.A.). He serves on the Board of Mi Casa Resource Center in Denver.
“Stable housing people can afford is the foundation for thriving families and strong communities. Throughout my career, I’ve worked to expand housing opportunities and build partnerships that deliver lasting solutions,” said Jaeckel. “As the new Director of the Division of Housing, I look forward to building on the work of past leaders and collaborating with communities across the state to ensure every Coloradan has a secure and stable place to call home.”
Jaeckel replaces Alison George, who has led the Division since 2015 and will retire this fall.
