The U.S. Census Bureau released on April 15 new tables and files from its 2025 Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections, providing detailed information on taxes imposed and collected by state governments and the District of Columbia.

The data include five broad tax categories and up to 25 subcategories, offering a comprehensive view of state-level taxation. This information is used by Congress, federal agencies, state and local governments, educational institutions, research organizations, and the public to analyze tax policy as well as to develop gross domestic product estimates and national income accounts.

According to the Census Bureau, these datasets help inform a range of economic analyses that influence public policy decisions across different levels of government. The release does not include an accompanying news release but is available as a tip sheet for interested parties.

Technical documentation is available for those seeking more details about the methodology or scope of the survey.

Looking ahead, officials expect continued use of this data in policy development and economic research.
