The U.S. Census Bureau released new Business Formation Statistics for March 2026, according to an April 8 announcement. The data provide updated information on new business applications and formations across the United States and Puerto Rico.

These statistics are important because they offer timely insight into economic activity related to entrepreneurship and business growth. The figures help policymakers, researchers, and the public understand trends in business creation at both national and regional levels.

The monthly release includes all twelve series of the dataset: four application series and eight formation series. The statistics cover the nation as a whole, as well as regions and individual states. In addition, four monthly business application series are provided specifically for Puerto Rico as part of the standard product.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, both seasonally adjusted and unadjusted data are available in this release. The Business Formation Statistics were developed through research collaboration with economists from several institutions: the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, University of Maryland, and University of Notre Dame.

No additional news release was issued with this announcement; it was distributed as a tip sheet only.
