The U.S. Census Bureau released new data on Mar. 26 from the Household Trends and Outlook Pulse Survey, known as HTOPS, which covers topics such as food and nutrition, health and well-being, transportation, employment, education, and more.

The survey aims to provide a broad look at the socioeconomic conditions facing households in the United States. The latest data was collected from a sample of about 30,000 households in April 2025. The information is designed to offer insights not only for the nation as a whole but also for smaller geographic areas defined by the Census Bureau.

HTOPS is described as an experimental product that collects information every other month on both core subjects and rotating topics. This approach helps federal agencies monitor trends over time and inform operational or policy decisions based on current household conditions.

Data users are able to access the HTOPS dataset through a public-use file format that allows them to create customized tables suited to their needs. According to the Census Bureau’s announcement, additional HTOPS data gathered later in 2025 will be made available in future releases.

The release did not include a formal news statement but was distributed via a tip sheet.
