Lawsuit Legal News has reported that Uber recorded 3,824 serious sexual assault incidents in the United States over the past year, marking a 38% decline from 5,981 incidents in the previous reporting period. This information is detailed in the company’s 2024 Safety Report.

According to Lawsuit Legal News, rideshare services like Uber have become essential for millions globally; however, persistent safety concerns continue to attract public scrutiny. The publication emphasized that while Uber’s convenience and accessibility are significant, its safety record—including reports of sexual assaults, harassment, and unsafe driving—remains a critical issue for both riders and drivers. The report argues that increased transparency, stronger regulatory oversight, and accessible legal recourse are vital for holding rideshare companies accountable for passenger safety.

Uber’s 2024 U.S. Safety Report revealed there were 3,824 reports of the five most serious categories of sexual assault during Uber trips within a single year. This represents a 38% decline from the 5,981 reports in the prior reporting period. The report also disclosed 141 cases classified as rape, with 91% of victims being riders and 7% being drivers. Lawsuit Legal News noted that although this decline reflects some progress, these figures underscore the ongoing risks faced by passengers and highlight the need for more proactive safety interventions across Uber’s network.

NBC News reported that Uber has implemented several safety features such as GPS-based RideCheck alerts, PIN verification to confirm correct vehicle pairing, and 24/7 emergency assistance integrated into its app. The network also said that Uber’s continuous driver screening program has removed over 80,000 drivers from the platform due to criminal history or driving violations. Despite these measures reflecting increased safety enforcement, NBC News notes that critics and victim advocacy groups remain concerned that the company’s safety technology and background checks may not be sufficient to prevent sexual violence and other misconduct during rides.

Lawsuit Legal News describes itself as a national legal information platform dedicated to reporting on litigation, consumer protection, and personal injury cases including those involving rideshare safety. It connects victims with qualified attorneys specializing in class action and injury claims while providing free legal consultations through its national network. The organization’s mission is to inform the public, promote accountability among corporations, and ensure victims of negligence or misconduct have access to justice and fair compensation.
