Union members in Washington, D.C. have set up a food pantry as the federal government shutdown extends beyond 30 days and funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) nears expiration. The pantry is distributing canned goods to the public and collecting donations for local food banks that are assisting laid-off federal employees, including some who are members of IAM Union and NFFE-IAM.

The ongoing government shutdown has affected many workers, leaving them without paychecks and reliant on community support for basic needs like food. By organizing this initiative, union members aim to help both their own colleagues and other impacted individuals during the prolonged lapse in government operations.
