The University of Colorado Boulder has been recognized as one of the leading universities in the country for its campus free speech environment. According to a recent national survey, CU Boulder ranked fifth overall and secured the highest position among Colorado institutions. The University of Colorado Denver was ranked 77th nationwide, making it the second-highest in the state.

The rankings come from the sixth annual College Free Speech Rankings, released by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) in partnership with College Pulse. The assessment is based on responses from over 68,000 students at 257 colleges and universities across the United States.

FIRE’s evaluation highlighted CU Boulder’s “green light” status in its Spotlight database, noting the university’s efforts to maintain institutional neutrality on controversial issues. Additionally, FIRE recognized actions taken by the CU Board of Regents, including their endorsement of the pro-free speech Chicago Statement, which now applies across all CU campuses.
