The University of Colorado announced on Mar. 26 that student access to ChatGPT Edu across all four campuses will be postponed until the fall semester at the request of Faculty Council.

Faculty leaders raised concerns that giving students access to the tool in the middle of the semester could disrupt classes. In response, university leadership decided to delay enrolled student access until Aug. 14.

“We have heard concerns from faculty about disruption to the learning environment this semester and take Faculty Council concerns seriously. We fully endorse the right of faculty to establish and maintain their individual classroom expectations,” CU President Todd Saliman and all four campus chancellors said in an email message.

Despite this change for students, all faculty and staff at both the CU system office and all campuses will receive access as planned on March 31.

The decision highlights ongoing efforts by university officials to balance new technology adoption with maintaining stable classroom environments.
