The University of Colorado’s Excellence in Leadership Program (ELP) cohort visited the state Capitol on February 11 to observe the legislative process. The visit was organized by CU’s State Government Relations team as part of an annual initiative aimed at providing participants with direct exposure to how state government operates and how policies that affect higher education are developed.

During the visit, around 40 participants attended presentations from university leaders and partners. These sessions offered insights into how CU’s Government Relations, legal, and budget teams work together to advocate for the university’s interests.

“This annual experience, led by CU’s State Government Relations team, provides participants with timely insight into the workings of Colorado’s government and the development of policies affecting higher education.”

Through this immersive experience, ELP participants gained a better understanding of collaboration among different university departments in engaging with policymakers.
