University of Colorado releases federal update on policy changes affecting higher education

The University of Colorado’s Federal Relations and Counsel office has provided recent updates on federal policy developments affecting higher education and research institutions.

In an update dated August 22, the office highlighted several federal issues. These include the proposed rule for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), a Supreme Court ruling related to National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant terminations, new guidance from the Department of Education regarding allowable activities under the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program, implementation plans for NIH “Gold Standard Science,” reorganization efforts at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and updated screening guidance from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

A separate update from August 20 addressed fiscal year 2026 appropriations and rescissions, a visit by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to CU Anschutz Medical Campus, recent awards to CU from the National Science Foundation, updates on the Department of Education’s Saving on A Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan, and details about visits to Capitol Hill by university representatives.
