University of Colorado reports on federal policy changes and congressional engagement

The University of Colorado’s Federal Relations and Counsel office released an update on November 21 detailing recent changes within the Department of Education’s Office and Operations. The update also covered developments in research technology priorities at the Department of Defense, as well as a proposed rule from the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services concerning public charge determinations.

A separate monthly update provided by CU Federal Relations addressed several federal topics relevant to the university. These included discussions about a potential government shutdown and fiscal year 2026 appropriations, activities involving the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Air Force ROTC Detachment, visits from Representative Crank to the COMBAT Center, and Representative Neguse’s participation in the MENV Symposium. Additional items highlighted were progress on the Dark and Quiet Skies Act, a Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics presentation in Washington, D.C., comments submitted by CU regarding SEVIS (the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System), as well as other recent visits to Capitol Hill.
