The University of Colorado (CU) system’s Office of Academic Affairs is currently accepting applications and nominations for its fall awards and grants. The opportunities are aimed at supporting faculty research in the arts and humanities, as well as recognizing individuals who have demonstrated notable achievements and humanitarian efforts within the university community.

The President’s Fund for the Humanities Grant supports faculty research and creative projects in the arts and humanities at CU. The grant offers up to $15,000 for a one-year period, which can include funding for a course buyout or support toward scholarly work. According to the Office of Academic Affairs, “Successful proposals for the PFH program describe a well-developed scholarly or creative project rooted in the arts and humanities with clear and feasible outcomes.” Eligible applicants must be full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty, or instructional and clinical teaching faculty with at least 20% of their workload dedicated to scholarly activities. Faculty who have not completed final reports from previous PFH awards are not eligible to apply. Applications are due by November 17.

The Thomas Jefferson Award honors students, staff, and faculty members whose accomplishments reflect superior performance in their professional roles or scholarship, alongside significant involvement in humanitarian activities. The award is funded by an endowment from the McConnell Foundation along with a bequest by Harrison Blair. The Office states that ideal candidates demonstrate “broad interests in literature, arts and sciences, and public affairs; a strong concern for the advancement of higher education; a deeply seated sense of individual civic responsibility; and a profound commitment to the welfare and rights of the individual.” Nominations are open to full-time CU professors (at all ranks), senior instructors, instructors, students, and staff members. Self-nominations are not permitted. The deadline for nominations is December 8.

For more information on either opportunity or questions regarding eligibility requirements, interested parties can contact the Office of Academic Affairs.
