Faculty Council members at the University of Colorado (CU) received an update on the development of Strategic Plan 2.0, which will replace the current five-year plan at the end of this academic year.

The council met remotely on November 20 and spoke with Lynn Vidler, provost at UCCS, and Chad Marturano, vice president and chief financial officer for the CU system, who are co-chairs of the strategic planning process.

“We are committed to hearing from faculty and partnering with you on this,” Marturano said. “This (Strategic Plan) will only be as good as the feedback we get from folks.”

Vidler and Marturano urged all members of the CU community to participate in a survey sent by email on November 19. The survey invites faculty, staff, and students to share their views about the university’s future direction. Each person received a unique link titled “Share Your Voice on CU’s Future.” Completing the survey is expected to take about six minutes.

To encourage participation, CU announced that the campus with the highest completion rate among faculty, staff, and students will receive a $1,000 donation for its campus food pantry.

“This survey is designed to gather perspectives on university priorities, performance and opportunities for improvement,” President Todd Saliman said in his email launching the effort. “The insights you provide will help shape our next Strategic Plan as we work to continue delivering for our community.”

Marturano and Vidler are meeting with governance group leaders throughout the 2025-26 academic year as part of an engagement phase intended to collect input from across CU’s campuses. These conversations aim to ensure that strategic planning reflects shared values and aspirations.

Marturano explained that some aspects of Strategic Plan 2.0 may carry over from previous plans while others could change or be new. He noted that adjustments might include changes in duration or focus areas due to evolving circumstances since 2021.

“The duration of the plan might be different,” he said. “The world is very different than it was in 2021. So we’re being mindful of how we could think about components of this plan that are evergreen. … We (also) want to be nimble and able to course correct along the way.”

A draft version of Strategic Plan 2.0 is scheduled for delivery to President Saliman by June 2026; final approval by CU’s Board of Regents is expected later that summer. The existing strategic plan remains in effect through June 2026.
