The University of Colorado’s Federal Relations and Counsel office has released updates on recent federal policy developments affecting higher education. The August 15 update covers several topics, including a ruling from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), clarification from ED regarding enhanced admissions data requirements, a proposed rule by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) prohibiting certain gender data collection, and a joint workforce strategy report issued by the Departments of Education, Labor, and Commerce.

In addition to these topics, an earlier update dated August 8 provided information about an ED memorandum on admissions data. It also discussed an executive order related to federal grantmaking processes, a lawsuit over the cancellation of a National Science Foundation grant, updates from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) concerning pocket rescissions and NIH grant cancellations, confirmation of an Under Secretary at ED, as well as ongoing investigations and frozen funds at UCLA and Duke University.
