The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on April 22 that it will begin replacing a traffic signal pole at the intersection of US Highway 160 and Colorado Highway 172, known as Elmore’s Corner. The operation is scheduled for April 23 and April 27, with motorists traveling between Durango and Bayfield advised to expect daytime delays due to lane reductions, slower speeds, and flagging operations from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The project involves pouring a concrete foundation in the intersection median on April 23. After the concrete sets, crews will return on April 27 to install the new traffic signal pole. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time during these dates.

In addition to this work, travelers on US Highway 160 west of Pagosa Springs (Mile Points 126 to 137) may experience five- to ten-minute delays Monday through Thursday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., continuing through June. More information about related fiber optic installation projects can be found at www.southernute-nsn.gov/broadband-modernization-project/.

During construction at Elmore’s Corner, working hours will remain from morning until mid-afternoon with various lane closures guided by flagging personnel. Traffic delays up to ten minutes are anticipated each day as crews work in the area.

According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life for residents through integrated transportation solutions.
