The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on April 30 that crews will begin two week-long surface treatment operations on a one-mile section of US Highway 491 in the Town of Dove Creek, starting May 4. The work will take place between County Road 8.2 and W 5th Street, with lane shifts and flagging operations occurring Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

These paving efforts are expected to cause minimal delays as crews aim to keep two-way traffic moving during the project. However, additional repairs on the Dove Creek Bridge, located south of N Colorado Ave, will require alternating one-lane traffic and could result in delays up to fifteen minutes after the main paving is completed.

Motorists should be prepared for various lane and intersection closures within the work zone during construction hours. Those entering or exiting the highway from driveways or side streets may experience temporary closures or detours. Traffic stops may occur periodically as equipment and materials are moved, and all activities are subject to weather conditions.

According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life for residents through integrated transportation solutions and aims to deliver an effective multi-modal system that safely transports people, goods, and information while enhancing environmental standards in Colorado. The official website also indicates that Shoshana Lew serves as executive director for the department.

As outlined by the official website, CDOT oversees transportation infrastructure across Colorado including building and maintaining interstates, U.S., and state highways while administering grants for aviation and transit. The agency operates within the transportation sector with a focus on highway maintenance along with support for aviation and transit initiatives.
