US 550 Red Mountain Pass was closed on August 5 to support search and rescue operations, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). The closure is at Mile Point 88.5, and officials said it may last much of the day due to difficult terrain in the area.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes while crews work in the region. CDOT has provided updates and a closure alert map for drivers affected by the extended closure.

“Search and rescue operations are underway; however, due to the challenging terrain, the closure may be in place for much of the day, and motorists are urged to seek alternate routes,” stated CDOT.

The department continues to monitor conditions and will provide information as it becomes available.
