The local utility is seeking input from both solar and non-solar customers as it considers changes to its residential solar program. A survey, open until January 30, 2026, invites community members to share their views on potential updates.
According to the utility, about 10,000 customers currently have residential solar systems and exchange energy with the grid. The current rate structure does not fully account for the costs of serving these customers, which has led to a growing cost shift between those with and without solar installations. The utility states that addressing this issue requires careful consideration and community feedback.
“This survey is the first step in that process. Your responses will influence how potential solutions are evaluated as we work toward a revised proposal,” the utility said.
The next steps include focus group discussions beginning in March 2026. Feedback from both the survey and focus groups will be shared with the Utilities Board in spring 2026 to help develop updated program options. Proposed net metering options are expected to be presented to City Council by summer 2026.
“We’ll continue to share updates and resources throughout the process,” according to the utility.
Community members are encouraged to participate regardless of whether they have residential solar systems. “Whether or not you have residential solar, your perspective matters. The survey takes just a few minutes, and every response helps guide a more informed, balanced approach,” the utility stated.
“Thank you for taking the time to share your voice.”
