The Vasquez Boulevard Improvements Project completed a major phase in late February with the widening of East 62nd Avenue between Vasquez Boulevard and Parkway Avenue, according to a March 16 announcement. The roadway has reopened to through traffic, restoring business access from East 62nd Avenue.

This development is important as it marks progress in efforts to enhance transportation infrastructure and improve mobility for residents and businesses in Adams County. The project is overseen by the Colorado Department of Transportation, which works to improve quality of life through integrated transportation solutions, according to the official website.

Westbound traffic from East 62nd Avenue will only be able to access northbound Colorado Highway 2 until completion of the median along Vasquez Boulevard, expected in summer 2026. In contrast, eastbound traffic now has full access through the roadway. Construction crews have also finished work on on- and off-ramps between Vasquez Boulevard and Colorado Highway 2 near East 63rd Avenue, with right turns from northbound CO 2 onto eastbound East 63rd Avenue now open.

With this phase complete, attention shifts to improvements within the Vasquez Boulevard median. Starting March 16, crews will begin work between East 60th and East 64th avenues. Planned activities include installing medians, curbs and gutters, guardrails, as well as preparing for new turn lanes and acceleration lanes along Vasquez Boulevard. This work will take place behind barriers with minimal impact on drivers; all north- and southbound lanes will remain open but slightly realigned during construction.

The Colorado Department of Transportation aims to deliver an effective multi-modal system that safely transports people while enhancing environmental standards in Colorado according to its official website. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director for the department as indicated by the same source.

The department oversees statewide transportation infrastructure including interstates, U.S. highways and state highways while administering grants for aviation and transit projects according to its official website. It operates across multiple sectors with a focus on highway maintenance as well as support for aviation and transit.
