Viasat has announced its support for the Royal Institution’s 2025 CHRISTMAS LECTURES, which will celebrate the event’s 200th anniversary with a focus on space exploration. The lectures will be led by Dame Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock, a well-known space scientist and presenter of BBC Sky at Night.
The CHRISTMAS LECTURES are designed to engage young audiences with live scientific demonstrations and explorations. This year’s program will feature special guests including astronauts and astronomers who have made significant contributions to their fields.
Mark Dankberg, Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer, and Co-Founder at Viasat, stated: “Encouraging young people to take an active interest in STEM subjects is foundational to Viasat’s Social Impact work and we are delighted to have the opportunity to promote the work of the Royal Institution in engaging young minds and fostering curiosity in not just our world, but the universe beyond.”
The Royal Institution has supported Viasat’s global STEM innovation initiative, Viasat: Space for Good, for two years. Katherine Mathieson, Director of the Royal Institution, has served as a judge for this program. The initiative aims to inspire future engineers, scientists, artists, and space enthusiasts by encouraging innovative ideas that contribute to a safe and sustainable space sector.
The Royal Institution operates as an independent charity focused on science education and public engagement both in the UK and internationally. Its activities include organizing events such as the CHRISTMAS LECTURES; hosting talks from leading thinkers; maintaining a popular YouTube channel; offering Ri Masterclasses in mathematics and computer science; providing hands-on workshops at its Urenco Young Scientist Centre; producing educational animations and films; and preserving scientific heritage through its Faraday Museum.
