Viasat has expanded its European Aviation Network (EAN) to include coverage over Serbia. The company activated new ground stations to support improved in-flight connectivity for flights traveling over Southeast Europe, including routes between the Balkans, Germany, western Europe, and Greece.

This expansion is intended to meet the evolving needs of airlines as they move toward more flexible in-flight connectivity offerings. The EAN’s scalability allows airlines to offer different commercial models, such as ‘freemium’ and ‘full and free’ internet access for passengers.

Don Buchman, President of Viasat Aviation, stated: “This expansion is a testament to our continued investment in the European Aviation Network and our long-term commitment to our airline partners and the European aviation market. As passenger demand for high-quality connectivity continues to grow across Europe, we are proactively enhancing the network to ensure a consistent, high-performance experience. The addition of coverage over Serbia improves a key traffic corridor and underlines EAN’s ability to scale and deliver a superior service in Europe’s busy skies.”

The EAN is described by Viasat as the only connectivity solution that combines S-band satellite coverage with a complementary ground component network. This approach aims to provide seamless broadband service with low latency for passengers flying through congested European airspace.
