Viasat announced on Apr. 8 the opening of a new office in Guam, aiming to provide enhanced sustainment services for satellite ground antenna systems in the region.
The company said this move addresses the need for reliable, local aftermarket support and will allow for faster, localized assistance with maintaining and servicing antennas and ground station sites. This is expected to help customers reduce time, resources, and costs associated with these operations.
The facility includes warehouse space and plans for future laboratory capabilities that will enable storage, servicing, and repair work locally. Viasat’s Antenna Systems team within its Defense and Advanced Technologies segment will offer preventative maintenance, emergency response around the clock, sustainment engineering, obsolescence mitigation, and cybersecurity compliance support. The company said experienced engineers and technicians stationed on Guam are ready to assist throughout the full lifecycle of ground antenna systems.
“Having Viasat engineers and technicians stationed on Guam increases our capacity for providing complex, timely, cost-effective support to our mission partners in region while enhancing our position as a global leader in the ground systems market,” said Kent Leka, Vice President and General Manager of Antenna Systems at Viasat. “These ground maintenance services can directly enhance mission availability, reduce lifecycle cost, and ensure systems remain secure, interoperable, and fully aligned with evolving requirements and threats.”
Viasat said its expanded presence will help military and commercial customers maintain assured SATCOM (satellite communications) as well as Telemetry, Tracking & Command capabilities necessary for distributed operations. The company expects this local capability will improve responsiveness for current clients while also supporting potential new customers seeking optimized maintenance solutions.
