Viasat has announced that its ViaSat-3 F2 satellite is scheduled to launch on November 5, 2025. After the launch, the satellite will spend several months traveling to geostationary orbit at 79° west longitude. Before entering service, it will undergo extensive in-orbit testing of both its bus and payload systems. The company expects the satellite to begin providing services in early 2026.
The ViaSat-3 satellites are engineered to cover nearly one-third of the Earth’s surface. The F2 unit is intended to deliver broadband connectivity across the Americas in response to growing customer demand. Viasat’s previously launched ViaSat-3 F1 satellite, which began operations in 2023, continues to serve North America.
According to Viasat, “The innovative features of ViaSat-3 are designed to significantly enhance flexibility for satellite operations and the effective delivery of services to meet continuous and dynamic bandwidth demands.” The company also stated, “Once in service, ViaSat-3 F2 will add significant capacity to Viasat’s fleet and enable better support for customers by providing bandwidth where it’s needed most in real-time.”
The new high-throughput capacity is expected to support a range of applications such as free Wi-Fi on commercial flights, fixed broadband for home internet users, and robust connectivity for government and defense missions.
More information about the ViaSat-3 constellation can be found on the Viasat website, while details about the upcoming launch are available on the ULA mission page.
