Viasat has introduced a new satellite service portfolio designed for government uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) operations. The offering, called the VuaLe portfolio, aims to provide secure and flexible connectivity options for various UAV missions, including intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, public safety, border security, defense, and scientific research.
The portfolio includes several connectivity services such as Uncrewed Air, L-MAX, G2X Air, G2X Air Plus, and K-MAX. These services are tailored to meet specific mission needs and offer different benefits to operators based on their requirements and budgets.
Uncrewed Air is a newly launched service within the portfolio that delivers reliable L-band connectivity using Viasat’s global network. This service is intended to make secure satellite communication more accessible to a wider range of UAV operators by supporting continuous and resilient links essential for mission-critical tasks.
In addition to the new connectivity service, Viasat has introduced compact terminals starting at 440 grams in weight. These lightweight terminals are designed for smaller UAV platforms and provide dependable command and control links through L-band connectivity. Their size and low power requirements are aimed at ensuring operational flexibility even in challenging environments.
Todd McDonell, President of International Government at Viasat, stated: “The launch of this new service portfolio enforces Viasat’s commitment to advancing UAV communications with secure, resilient, and flexible solutions. As demand grows for UAV missions, we aim to enable our customers across government and defense industries to operate with greater situational awareness, operational efficiency and cost control.”
