The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. to mark the grand re-opening of the renovated playground at Woodland Hills Park.
The recent renovation includes updated play structures, new seating, and an engineered wood-fiber play surface designed for accessibility. Crews removed old equipment and sand surfacing, replacing them with features that aim to improve both safety and accessibility throughout the park. The improvements also include a ramp and accessible concrete walkways.
Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Director Britt Haley stated, “This renovated playground at Woodland Hills Park reflects our commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and high-quality spaces for every resident. This year, the parks department was able to stretch the available funding to include rehabilitation of this playground in addition to the playground at Rampart Park nearby.”
City Councilmember Dave Donelson and Parks Director Britt Haley will speak at the event. Students from Academy District 20’s Pioneer Elementary School are expected to attend and try out the new playground equipment.
Funding for this project came from multiple sources: the Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS) sales tax program, the Conservation Trust Fund, and the City’s Office of Accessibility.
