Xcel Energy has announced its 15th annual Day of Service, inviting the public to join employees, their families, and friends in volunteering for community projects from September 11 to September 13. The event will offer 45 nonprofit projects across Colorado, with many opportunities in the Denver metro area as well as Grand Junction, Alamosa, Pueblo, and Fort Collins. Activities include both indoor and outdoor work such as land stewardship, packing meals for those facing food insecurity, organizing learning kits for classrooms and youth programs, and participating in a field day with a nonprofit serving adults with intellectual disabilities.

“We are always looking for ways to make energy work better for our customers and communities, and what better way than using our energy by providing hands-on support to our local non-profits during our annual Day of Service,” said Robert Kenney, president of Xcel Energy—Colorado. “We have a long history of investing in the communities we are privileged to serve and we’re proud to give our time and resources to make a difference in the lives around us. People of all ages and abilities can participate—we invite you to come join us.”

The Day of Service began in 2010 as Xcel Energy’s largest volunteer initiative. In 2024, nearly 2,200 participants—including employees, contractors, retirees, customers, friends and family—contributed approximately 7,900 hours of service across eight states where Xcel Energy operates. Their efforts included packing 130,000 meals for those in need. More than 100 nonprofits benefited from these activities last year.

The event was established as a tribute to victims, survivors and first responders of September 11th as well as others who contribute to community safety. It provides an opportunity for Xcel Energy staff and community members to collaborate on projects that support local nonprofits.

Xcel Energy is based in Minneapolis and supplies electricity and gas services across eight states: Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, New Mexico and Texas. The company focuses on delivering reliable energy while advancing clean energy initiatives.
