Xcel Energy and the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming have announced a new partnership focused on wildfire preparedness during Fire Prevention Month. The collaboration is designed to provide Colorado residents with information and resources to better prepare for and respond to wildfire threats.

As part of the initiative, representatives from Xcel Energy will work with Red Cross volunteers to share guidance on wildfire prevention, home safety, and emergency preparedness planning. In cases of wildfires or Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS), both organizations will coordinate with local communities to distribute resources and timely updates.

Xcel Energy will also be the Presenting Sponsor for the Home Fire Campaigns and Sound the Alarm events in Colorado. These programs will reach residents throughout the state, offering practical advice on wildfire prevention and actions to take during a PSPS. The partnership will focus in particular on youth education through the “Prepare with Pedro” program, which teaches children important safety skills.

Two upcoming Sound the Alarm events will take place in Pueblo on October 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and in Golden on October 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., where community members can meet with Red Cross and Xcel Energy representatives.

Xcel Energy is also advising customers who use powered medical devices or need refrigerated medications to prepare for possible outages. Customers who notify Xcel Energy about their medical needs may receive additional notifications about planned and unplanned outages, as well as eligibility for lower electric rates or protections against credit action and disconnection. The organizations highlighted their commitment to community safety in a joint statement: “This partnership underscores Xcel Energy and the Red Cross’ unwavering commitment to promoting safety and supporting our communities. By joining forces as trusted community organizations, we are helping Coloradans stay informed, prepared and supported – before, during and after wildfire emergencies and power outages.”
