Xcel Energy crews are working to restore power to the remaining customers in Colorado following a severe windstorm and a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) that occurred on Friday. The restoration efforts include replacing utility poles and using helicopters for repairs, particularly in Evergreen and Boulder, which were among the hardest-hit areas.

As of Sunday morning, about 58,000 customers who lost power due to the extreme weather have had their service restored. Approximately 15,000 customers were still without electricity, but Xcel Energy expects most will have power back by Sunday evening.

Resource centers have been set up in some affected communities. Customers can access information on recovery efforts through Xcel Energy’s Event Update page. The company’s RED Trucks are also stationed at these centers to provide support and information. For those needing food assistance, resources are available via the Find Food Map, which lists Hunger Relief Partners throughout Colorado.

Friday’s weather brought an increased wildfire risk, prompting Xcel Energy to implement a PSPS in Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties. Additional outages also occurred outside of these areas as a result of the storm.

Xcel Energy is communicating with customers about ongoing restoration work through its website and social media channels such as Facebook and X. The company has asked residents to keep safety in mind around repair crews and report any damage like downed lines or broken poles.

Customers can report outages or check outage status through several methods: using the mobile app available on Apple App Store or Google Play; online at xcelenergy.com/out; by texting OUT or STAT to 98936; or by calling 1-800-895-1999.

Xcel Energy states: “We make energy work better for customers, helping them thrive every day. That means always raising the bar — delivering better service and providing more reliable, resilient and sustainable energy.”

The company is headquartered in Minneapolis and serves eight states including Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, New Mexico and Texas. More information is available on their website or via their social media accounts.
