Youth Fishing Derby returns to Crystal Creek Reservoir on September 13

Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain, together with Colorado Springs Utilities and Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), will hold the third annual Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, September 13. The event is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Crystal Creek Reservoir.

The derby is open to youth anglers between the ages of 6 and 15, along with their parents or guardians. Registration is required, but there is no cost for participants. Organizers note that youth do not need a fishing license to take part in the event.

The first 100 young anglers who arrive will receive free fishing gear. Before fishing begins, volunteers will provide demonstrations on casting, knot tying, baiting hooks, and safe fish handling practices.

Participants can compete for prizes in different fish categories during the derby. An awards ceremony will recognize all youth anglers at the end of the competition. A complimentary lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.
